  WHAT IS OBESITY?

Obesity is defined as a body weight of 20% over one's ideal body weight (IBW).

WHAT IS MORBID OBESITY?

Morbid obesity is defined as as excess body weight of 100 pounds over the ideal body weight (IBW).

    

 SURGERY FOR MORBID OBESITY

gastric bypass or stapling operations restrict food intake and help morbidly obese people lose most, if not all, of there excess weight. Surgery is the only method which has been shown to reliably produce significant weight loss in motivated morbidly obese patients who meet specific criteria.             

HOW CAN I LOSE WEIGHT?  

The best methods or programs for weight loss include diet, exercise and behavioral modification. Medications may be helpful but can also be dangerous. The failure rate for weight loss in the morbidly obese people exceeds 95%!

MYTH VS. TRUTH

"Obesity is a phycological problem occuring in weak-minded people who overeat."

Quite the contrary, obesity is caused by many factors including a genetic predisposition and probably inherent metabolic abnormalities.
