Gallstones are usually diagnosed by ultrasound, which is a painless and easy procedure. When gallstones and symptoms are present, treatment is removal of the gallbladder. Diet modifications can be used for cases without symptoms.

MYTH VS. TRUTH

"Gallbladder surgery is complicated and involves a prolonged hospital stay."

Actually, gallbladder removal is usually performed using a laparoscope, requiring four small incisions and generally only a short hospital stay.

A laparoscopic procedure involves the insertion of a tiny camera into your abdomen. The camera sends images to a video screen, to show your surgeon the exact location of your gallbladder. Thus, the need for a large painful incision is eliminated, and recovery time is generally shorter.
