WHAT ARE
FIBROCYSTIC BREAST
CHANGES?
Fibrocystic
breast changes, also are called fibrocystic disease although
not actually a disease), is the most common cause of breast
lumps in women ages 35-50. Most often this condition is
the result of hormonal changes that cause breast tenderness.
Lump size and tenderness commonly increase the week before
menstruation, decrease a week after menstruation, and generally
disappear after menopause. Decreasing caffeine intake can
aid introducing breast tenderness. Fibrocystic breast changes
alone, do not increase the risk of breast cancer.

HOW SERIOUS IS
NIPPLE DISCHARGE
Although
a clear, or bloody nipple discharge may be worrisome, it
is rarely associated with cancer. Most often this condition
is a result of a small non-cancerous tumors, or growths
called papillomas. Occasionally, nipple discharge may be
a result of hormonal changes. You should seek medical advise
for any changes in your breasts, including nipple discharge.

WHAT ABOUT BREAST
PAIN?
Breast pain is
rarely a symptom of cancer and is most often due to hormonal
changes that may be associated with fibrocystic changes. Breast
pain may reduce by decreasing caffeine intake and/or by taking
vitamin E oral supplements. If breast pain persists, you should
seek medical advice.

MYTH VS. TRUTH
"Most breast
lumps are found by physicians."
Actually, most
breast lumps are found by women themselves, while doing there
monthly breast examination. When you do your self breast examination,
look for changes such as dimpling, thickening, swelling,,
lumps, or nipple discharge.
